More about Dr. Seliktar

Dr. Dror Seliktar is an associate professor on the Technion’s Faculty of Biomedical Engineering and a visiting associate professor in the Nanotechnology Institute, National University of Singapore. Dr. Seliktar earned his master’s and PhD degrees in mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering, respectively, from Georgia Tech. He previously received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Drexel University in 1994. After earning his PhD, he was awarded a two-year post-doctoral appointment at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich sponsored by the United States National Science Foundation.

Seliktar’s primary area of interest is in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine with an emphasis on hydrogel biomaterials and biomechanics. His academic research focuses specifically on novel hydrogel biomaterials for tissue engineering, regulation of morphogenesis via physical properties in 3-D culture, and mechanobiology in tissue engineering. Seliktar’s applied research in tissue regeneration has lead to the discovery of a new biomaterial, Gelrin™, which has been licensed to a company called Regentis Biomaterials Ltd., of which he is a founder. The technology transfer of the patented Gelrin biomaterial technology from the Technion into human clinical trials, which are currently underway in Europe, has been an integral part of his tenure in the department.

Seliktar has received several awards for his research and teaching accomplishments, including the Dudi Ben-Aharon Award for Excellence in Research, the Salomon and Simon Mani Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Hershel Rich Innovation Award. He currently serves as the Director of the Norman Seiden International Multidisciplinary Graduate program in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology. Seliktar was recently awarded a large-scale international cooperation grant from the Singapore government in the area of cardiac restoration therapies; he serves as the director and lead PI of this multi-national collaborative endeavour.
